Prof Mike Scott
Mike is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. His interests are across the whole of the perioperative care pathway and his clinical commitments include high risk pre-assessment clinics, anaesthesia for major resections for most abdominal surgical specialties, and post operative optimisation. He also has clinical commitments to medical, surgical and oncological intensive care admissions.
Mike has lectured extensively around the world and has published clinical trials, editorials and review papers.
He was one of the first clinicians in the UK to adopt Enhanced Recovery and has championed it ever since. He was a member of the working party for Enhanced Recovery in Colorectal and was appointed a Clinical Advisor in Enhanced Recovery for NHS Improvement in 2012. Mike has a keen research interest and has been investigator / Chief Investigator for multiple studies in analgesia, haemodynamic monitoring, fluid therapy and the stress response for surgery within an ERAS Protocol. He has been awarded many grants and has been jointly awarded the Farndon Prixe for best Surgical Paper by the ASGBI on 2 occasions in the last 5 years.
Mike is co-author for some of the ERAS Society Consensus Guidelines, Chair of the ERAS Education Committee and is on the ERAS Society Executive Committee. He is Secretary of the UK ERAS Society.
For the last 10 years Mike has also been on the Editorial Board and contributor for the Advanced Life Support Manual, UK Resuscitation Council, Editorial Board Immediate Life Support Manual UK Resuscitation Council ,Editorial Board Advanced Life Support Manual, European Resuscitation Council, Editorial Board Immediate Life Support Manual European Resuscitation Council.
He was a member of the WHO Education Committee and Member and author of the WHO LIFEBOX Geneva Project SPO2 Manual and algorithms in 7 languages. The Lifebox program is now saving countless lives around the world.
